The 21 year old Lachie Burtt was one of the many Australian fans in attendance at the Adelaide Oval on day one of the pink-ball Test, until he chose to pull off an ‘expensive’ stunt that made it to the headlines across the world while making him popular and India pacer Mohammed Siraj angry.
Using 250 cups emptied after consuming beer worth AUD 2750 (approximately INR 1.48 lakh), Burtt and his mates decided to turn it into a monster pile, popularly called ‘beer snake,
“The funny thing was everyone could buy four drinks (at one time), so we were all sitting there with four drinks each and there were 67 of us,” Burtt, an electrician by profession, told News Corp.
“So there was a fair bit going on…plus everyone around us on the hill, they were loving it,” he added.
But all hell broke loose when Burtt decided to carry the ‘beer snake’ and walk right across the sight screen just as Siraj started running in to bowl to. Marnus LabuschagneSpotting the distraction, the Australian batsman pulled out at the last moment, inviting Siraj’s ire, as he threw the ball at the stumps in anger.
The videos from the incident went viral, making Burtt an internet celebrity and his ‘beer snake’ one of the trending topics of the day.
Burtt did apologize for his antics later, as it led to a brief stoppage in play.
