Kolkata: Cops from the Entally police station arrested four persons on Wednesday night for barging into a Convent Road flat and making away with valuables, including Rs 10 lakh in cash, ornaments and crucial documents. Anita Nankani, who lives there with her 85-year-old mother, was not at home but traveling back from Mumbai when the incident took place.
Police said they took the accused into custody for the recovery of missing items. “Around 80% of the recovery is complete. The accused traveled from Bihar and include a former HoD of a science department at Patna University, aged around 76 years. An old family dispute seems to be a motive,” said an investigating officer.
The family of the accused is reportedly considering legal action, claiming they were framed and that they did not enter the flat unlawfully.
In her complaint, Nankani claimed besides the cash, five pairs of diamond and two gold earrings, three diamond bracelets, nine diamond rings, six gold and diamond bangles, gold coins, 18 silver glasses and the sale deed and mutation papers of the flat, Insurance papers, and bank FD papers of Rs 30 lakh were missing. She also attached CCTV evidence.
