Durgapur: Protests erupted at the Durgapur Utsav on Sunday when two traders put up stalls with Bangladesh flags to sell Bangladeshi sareesAfter BJP proteststhe stall owners removed the flags, but tension remained at the festival organized by the local chamber of commerce.
One of the traders, Samsur Rahman, said, “We came from Narayanganj, Bangladesh, to sell sarees after discussing with the fair committeeOur business banner for the sarees had a symbol of the Bangladeshi flag. We were told to remove it, so we removed it and complied without any issues.”
A member of fair committee, Prabir Ghoshal, said, “They were selling sarees under the banner of Bangladesh. They told me they were Indians. I told them that the banner had to be taken down, as we would not tolerate such actions. They took it down.” BJP leader Lakhan Ghorui held a protest on Sunday afternoon.
