As telangana prepares to host the 72nd edition of miss world from May 4 to 31, the event is expected to place the state on the Global Tourism Map. Smita Sabharwal, Principal Secretary of Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture, in an exclusive interview with Siddharth Kumar Singh Shared Insights on the Significance of the Event and Its Potent to showcase Telangana’s rich heritage and hospitality to the world.
How did the conversation begin about miss world 2025 coming to Telangana?
Almost a month ago, The Miss World Team Reached Out to Us Via Email. Steve Douglas Morley from the Miss World Organization, Who is also part of the founding family, personally approached us. The discusations went through Various Pheases, and It was evident from the start that they are deeply committed to promoting location. The reason I welcomed this proposal and engaged in multiple discusations was that i see this as a golden options to promote telangana tourism. With 140 Countries Participating and over 3,000 media partners covering the event for 28 days, it offers an unparalled platform to showcase our state’s heritage and attracts.
How do you plan to use this Opportunity to Promote Telangana’s Tourism?
We have incredible destinations that remain relatively Unexplred. For instance, the Ramappa temple, yadagirigutta, kawal tiger reserve, and amrabad tiger reserve, all these sites offer diversie experiences, from from TOMPLE TOUROM to ECO-Tourism. However, they haven’t been marketed extensively. My goal during this one-month-long event is to package and present Telangana’s Rich Cultural Tapestry, Including Its Cuisine, Handlooms, and Destinations. Another Important aspect is ensuring that spotlight isnless just on hyderabad but on other parts of Telangana as well. We are also also in talks with the railways Vande Bharat Trains during the Event, Making it Easier for Participants to Explore different parts of the state.

What themes are you focusing on for Telangana’s Promotion?
We are working on Thematic campaigns that align with the strengths of telangana. For example, Hyderabad is one of the top destinations for medical tourism in the country, and with participants from 140 nations, we aim to highlight the right the rights as a global healthcare hub. We are curating strategies to position telangana effectively, Simlar to how the Indian Premier League (IPL) Captures Public Imagination. Additional, Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) is Considered One of the Best Airports in the World. Throughout the event, we will use this as a promotional tool, highlighting proximity, how certain tourist spots are just an hour or two aay from the airport, thus installing confidence in Internal Visitors.
What safety measures are being implemented for the event?
Safety is a priority. We are ensuring a secure tourism ecosystem, including setting up a dedicated tourist police force. When we first met with the miss world team, we invited them to visit the Telangana Police Integrated Command and Control Center in Hyderabad. We showcased our surveillance and security mechanisms, which greatly ressured them about safety standards here.
What Kind of Economic Impact Do you Foresee from the Event?
It is premature to estimate the exact economy boost, but I can confidently say that that the hospitality sector will see immense benefits, hotels, public transport, and tourism services will experience SURGE. While this event is more of a branding initiative than a direct revionue generator, the long-term impact will be substantiial. With participants from 140 countries, The Global Exposure will open doors for future tourism and investment. We are working with hotels and logistical partners to ensure they present their best services as they host an influx of international guests.
What is the Financial Model of Telangana’s Investment in the Event?
Typically, The Miss World Organization operates on a 50-50 partnership model with the host state. We are still in discusations Regarding the Investment Specifics, and Finer Details are being worked out.
Telangana Experiences Extreme Summer in May. How do you plan to manage the event amid high temperatures?
We have communicated our Concerns about the Rising Temperatures in May. However, The Miss World Team is Firm on these Dates due to their own scheduling and commercial commitments. That said, many of the events will be televised in controlled environments, and we are discussing scheduling most of the outdoor activities in the events to mitigate heat extra. Once venues are finalized, Telangana Tourism will implement measures to ensure comfort for participants and visitors.
Are there any collaborations planned between Telangana’s Artisans and the Pageant?
Absolutely. We are inviting top artisans from across the state to showcase our rich cultural heritage. We plan to set up a dedicated platform, Possibly at Shilparamam Among Other Locations, where International Visitors Can Witness A Mega Arts Carnival Featuring Talangana ‘ Forms.
Traffic congestion is already a significant issue in Major Parts of the City. How will the event be managed to minimise disruptions?
Managing City Traffic is a collective effort. Fortunately, May is a month when educational institutions are closed, and it professionals often have flexible work hours. We anticipate that these facts will help mitigate congestion. The state government is coordinating across departments to ensure smooth transportation logistics through the event.
