Kolkata: Engineers of Kolkata Municipal Corporation‘s (KMC) electrical department would form a WhatsApp group to share data and report on the prevailing situation of the street lighting system in the boroughs across all its wards, mayor Firhad Hakim said on Friday. Based on their feedback, the civic body will take up corrective measures.
The electrical department officials from the boroughs would tour neighborhoods under their jurisdiction to assess the situation on ground, Hakim added.
They will then send a report to the KMC headquarters requesting for funds to overhaul any specific zone or replace malfunctioning lights, Hakim added.
According to a KMC electrical department official, the department often gets calls from residents across the city, complaining about the poor illumination system in their localities.
“If we form a WhatsApp group and get connected through it, we will be able to trace poorly-lit zones and take effective measures without delay,” said the civic official. “Though we have been rapidly enhancing the illumination on both sides of the EM Bypass, some neighborhoods located away from the link road are poorly-lit. Often, we get complaints of rising crimes in these areas. We need to tour these areas and do the need to offer the much-awaited relief to the residents,” said another KMC official.
