Kolkata: The Kolkata Police The detective department made recoveries worth around Rs 11 crore in connection with the ongoing bank locker probe.
A bank employee, in charge of lockers at the Park Street branch of a bank, had cleaned out two lockers containing a large number of gold and jewelery items. On Wednesday, the recoveries made included 27 diamond ornaments, including bracelets, necklaces, bangles, earrings, and rings, valued at Rs 10 crore. Among the other recoveries were seven gold ornaments, like chains, bangles, earrings and bracelets, valued at Rs 27.8 lakh. Additionally, there were 11 gold bars weighing 782 g, valued at Rs 66.5 lakh, and six gold coins weighing 46 g, valued at Rs 3.9 lakh.
“During interrogation, the accused siblings — Moumita Si and her brother Mithun — admitted their involvement, and Moumita claimed she hid ornaments at a first-floor flat in Southern Enclave on Bosepukur Road. Accordingly, a raid was conducted. We believe that most of the stolen items have been recovered,” said joint CP (crime & traffic) Rupesh Kumar.
Cops who arrested Moumita and Mithun on Jan 10, and recovered jewellery, cash, and property worth Rs 1.2 crore earlier, claimed huge transactions could be detected in their bank accounts, including cash deposits, purchases of gold, high-end cars, and valuable articles and gadgets.
