Man held in Kol in fake docu case is B'deshi: Cops

Kolkata: A man arrested on Monday night in Kolkata in connection to forged documents scam in the state has been found to be a Bangladeshi, police said on Wednesday. According to Kolkata Policehours after they arrested Palash Biswas as one of the 73 persons who carried a passport issued on fake documents, it was learned that his actual name was Chayan Barua, from Halodiya Falong near Kutbazar in Bangladesh’s Coxbazar.
“The accused came to India illegally through the Assam border sometime in 2021. In India, he worked at many places in Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata in the past three years and was staying at Ganga Nagar in Madhyamgram in a rented house,” said joint. CP (crime & traffic) Rupesh Kumar.
“He planned to cross the border into this state and escape to Europe. However, his plan was thwarted by police action,” he added.
Meanwhile, cops have found that arrested Abdul Hossain, who had helped slain Sajjak Alam escape from the prison van in Goalpokhor, has around ten cases against him in Bangladesh for murder, robbery and illegal arms trading. To escape the numerous criminal charges, Abdul crossed the border and went into hiding in India. He used to deal in illegal drugs, and then moved into arms trading, said sources. He also set up a business of making fake documents for Bangladeshi nationals.
Investigators are trying to determine how many people had received such fake documents through him.
