NEW DELHI: The parents of the doctor who was raped and murdered at the RG Kar hospital filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court on Thursday, requesting a new investigation into the crime. They expressed distrust in the current investigation of the incident, which had sparked widespread protests, and sought directions for a fresh probe into their daughter’s rape and murder.
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh instructed their counsel to include the CBI, the current investigating agency, as a party in the petition and present the matter again before the court on Monday.
The postgraduate trainee doctor’s body was discovered in the seminar room of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
On December 13, the Sealdah court released RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s former principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala police station’s officer-in-charge Abhijit Mondal on bail. Their release was granted because the CBI did not submit charge sheets within the required 90-day period, their legal representatives stated.
Ghosh faced accusations of evidence tampering, whilst the police officer was charged with causing delays in registering an FIR after the discovery of the body.
The CBI has submitted a charge sheet against the main accused, Sanjay Roy,
According to the CBI’s charge sheet, Roy, who served as a civic volunteer with the local police, allegedly committed the offense when the victim was resting in the hospital’s seminar room during her break.
