Siliguri: Union home minister Amit Shah is scheduled to attend the 61st Raising Day ceremony of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on Dec 20 at its Siliguri frontier headquarters in Ranidanga. Shah is also scheduled to inaugurate the border defense force residence at SSB headquarters.
Shah is scheduled to arrive at Bagdogra airport at 11.20pm on Thursday by IAF aircraft. He will leave for Mayfair, on the outskirts of Siliguri, where he will stay overnight. The minister will go to the parade venue of the SSB headquarters the following day at 10.55am. Later in the day, he will inaugurate the border defense force residence followed by an areas assessment register review meeting. He is scheduled to depart in the afternoon.
SSB, formerly known as Special Service Bureau, was raised on March 15, 1963, after the 1962 India-China war. Its Raising Day was changed to Dec 20 through an act of Parliament in 2007.
SSB officials said preparations are on in full swing to celebrate the Raising Day of the paramilitary force guarding the India-Nepal and India-Bhutan borders. The event will feature a range of activities, including sports demonstrations, martial arts, Mallakhamb performances and traditional dance from cultural groups across north Bengal, including the Toto tribal community.
