India-Bangladesh Relations: Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen on Friday (6 December 2024) strongly criticized the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus for its treatment of minorities. He raised questions on the plight of minorities after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power.
Referring to the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, he said, “India, which lost the lives of 17,000 soldiers to save Bangladesh against Pakistan, is today being called the enemy.” Nasreen further said, “India, which helped freedom fighters fight Pakistan by providing arms and training, has become the enemy today. Whereas Pakistan, which killed 30 lakh people and raped 2 lakh women, has Today he has become a friend.”
Increasing atrocities on minorities in Bangladesh
Violence is increasing in Bangladesh, especially against the Hindu community. Recently violence broke out after the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das. A case of treason has been registered against him for alleged insult to the Bangladeshi flag. Many countries including India and UK have criticized Bangladesh regarding this situation. Sheikh Hasina, who is living in exile in India, has also raised questions on the policies of the Yunus government, calling it “genocidal”.
