Temp postal worker held in passport scam

Kolkata: A temporary postal worker, who was assigned to create passports, was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly making fake passports for Bangladeshi citizens on a day when cops decided to move the passport office for the cancellation of several dozen passports issued using forged documents.
The special investigation team picked up Taraknath Sen from Basirhat, the fourth person to be arrested in the fake passport case.
A group was reportedly involved in creating fake IS cards, passports and documents for Bangladeshi citizens, charging them Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh per fake passport.
The others already arrested are Ripan Biswas (19) from Barasat, a postman at Panchasayar post office, Dipak Mondal (33), and a temporary postman at Harwood Point Coastal, Samaresh Biswas (40).
The unrest in Bangladesh prompted CP Manoj Verma to form an SIT and a probe found temporary staffers at suburban post offices being involved. Cops searched various parts of North 24 Parganas and found that postal workers—some permanent and some temporary—would collect passports from post office under the pretense of delivering them to applicants and then hand them over to the heads of the racket in Barasat. Police said Samaresh and his son Ripan were the gang leaders.
